Residual stress refers to the stress that remains in equilibrium within the physical body in the absence of external forces. There are residual compressive stress and tensile stress. The cause is the inconsistency of force, heat, material composition and performance, which causes uneven plastic deformation caused by the stress and heat action of each part of the workpiece. This residual stress will cause deformation of parts, and serious deformation will cause cracks. The second kind of residual stress is the residual stress that is balanced within the grain range, also known as the crystal residual stress, which only exists in polycrystalline metals and is caused by the different degree of deformation of the grains. This residual stress can be reduced as long as it is heated and can disappear when heated to the recrystallization temperature. It belongs to the microscopic residual stress, which will cause the workpiece to produce microscopic cracks. The third type of residual stress is the residual stress in equilibrium within the original cell. It is caused by cold hardening of the workpiece, so it is called hardening residual stress, which is also a microscopic residual stress, which can cause micro-cracks in the workpiece.
